The Ukrainian
Dance Ensemble "ISKRA" became the first organization in 2003 to
request membership in the Ukrainian Cultural Center. Their
formal application was submitted on February 5, 2004. From left
to right are Christine Syzonenko (Treasurer and Group
Coordinator), Fr. Roman Mirchuk (Pastor and Building Committee
Chairman), Karen Chelak (Costume and Group Coordinator), and
Orest Kucyna (Trustee and Building Committee Vice Chairman).
Two members from
our community, Margaret Nycz and Olya Kuziw, originally formed
the ISKRA Dance Ensemble approximately eight years ago. Its
purpose is to teach Ukrainian Folk Dance to children, teens, and
young adults who reside in the northern New Jersey area. The
goals of the group include performing throughout the
metropolitan area at various shows and festivals, displaying the
rich traditions of our colorful Ukrainian heritage.
